Lots to visit on the Heritage Coast
One thing for sure, East Yorkshire's coastline deserves more than a flying visit. There are so many things to see and places to go that perhaps you need a flight plan!
The sharp scent of salt in the air coupled with the excitement of exploring caves and coves which are the legacy of marauding Danes that's the real hidden treasure of a seaside holiday.
The Heritage Coast around Flamborough is breathtaking and an adventurer's playground. Towering cliffs twice the height of York Minster are the home of thousands of seabirds and provide a majestic back-cloth to coves and shores.
Why not visit the Heritage Coast Information Centre before setting out for unspoiled Flamborough Head, where you can walk the cliff top, enjoy a trip in a fishing Coble - the name for the boats that ply their trade around the headland or watch the seabirds dive from the high cliffs into the sea to catch fish for their daily meal.
The RSPB Reserve at Bempton is a must for bird lovers. Huge numbers of seabirds colonise the chalk cliffs, including magnificent puffins, kittiwakes, guillemots and England's largest gannet colony, you will find more information on the reserve in our menu on the left.
Danes Dyke was a defensive earthwork believed to have been built in the Iron Age when Flint weapons kept invaders at bay. The earthworks bank is some 20 feet high and two and a half miles long running across Flamborough Head from one cliff to another built to protect settlements on the headland
